A Co-op customer in Lancashire scored a culinary jackpot when they accidentally picked up heavily discounted pasta sauce and coffee, worth over £80 for just £3.29.
A suspected glitch on Thursday evening caused some Co-op product prices to be reduced by as much as 100% on the delivery app Deliveroo. This led to shoppers being able to get products, including jars of ‘Loyd Grossman pasta sauce’ , ‘Costa ground coffee’ , and Fox’s cookies, for free.
A co-op, short for cooperative, is a business owned and controlled by its members who share resources and work together towards a common goal.
Members contribute financially or through labor, sharing profits and decision-making responsibilities.
Co-ops can be found in various sectors, including agriculture, retail, and finance.
They often prioritize member needs over profit maximization, promoting community development and social welfare.
The pricing error allowed customers to take advantage of heavily discounted items, with some people even getting more than £80 worth of goods for just £3.29. A Co-op spokesperson said the low prices were due to a ‘clerical error‘ that was quickly resolved, and they apologized for any inconvenience caused.
One customer, Peter from Lancashire, was able to get his order for just £18, which included biscuits, tea bags, and cereal. He plans to donate most of the items to his local food bank, which desperately needs non-perishable food for people in his community.
The issue is not unique to the Co-op, as other retailers have experienced similar pricing errors in the past. In 2022, a pricing mistake on India‘s Epic Games store allowed some customers to buy copies of ‘Fifa 23 Ultimate Edition’ for just $0.06.

How to Claim Your Discounted Items
If you were able to take advantage of the Co-op’s discounted prices, it’s worth checking your terms and conditions to see if you have any rights to keep the items or get a refund. Citizen’s Advice suggests that consumers should not have to give back an item or pay more for it if the retailer sold it to them at a lower cost than they meant to.
A Brief History of Pricing Errors
The Co-op is not the first retailer to experience a pricing error, and many companies have had similar issues in the past. The Co-op has recently been affected by a cyber attack, but there is no suggestion that this issue is related to the attempted hacking attempt.
In any case, it’s good news for customers who were able to take advantage of the discounted prices. As one user on X put it, ’15p Robinsons squash will do well with the heat wave.’
With the increasing demand for convenience, delivery apps have become a staple in modern life.
According to a report, the global food delivery market size is projected to reach $290 billion by 2025.
The top players in the industry include Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash.
These apps offer users a wide range of restaurants and cuisines, often with real-time tracking and estimated delivery times.
