Kraken has launched commission-free US equity trading, expanding its platform to include traditional financial markets alongside cryptocurrencies. The move marks a significant step forward for the crypto exchange as it prepares for a possible initial public offering.
Kraken Enters Traditional Finance with Commission-Free U.S. Stock Trading
Crypto exchange Kraken has begun offering commission-free trading for U.S.-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), expanding its platform to include traditional financial markets alongside cryptocurrencies.
A New Era in Multi-Asset Trading
The rollout, which starts in 10 U.S. jurisdictions including New Jersey, Connecticut, and Alabama, marks a significant step forward for Kraken as it prepares for a possible initial public offering (IPO). Clients in these states can now buy and sell equities directly through their Kraken account using the mobile app, Kraken Pro, or web interface.
A Seamless All-in-One Trading Experience
Kraken’s co-CEO Arjun Sethi sees this move as a natural step for the company, paving the way for the tokenization of assets. ‘Crypto isn’t just evolving, it’s becoming the backbone for trading across asset classes, such as equities, commodities and currencies,‘ he said in a statement. As demand for 24/7 global access grows, clients want a seamless, all-in-one trading experience.

A Growing List of U.S. Crypto Companies
Kraken is not alone in its push into traditional finance. A growing list of U.S. crypto companies are aiming to go public on U.S. exchanges, joining the likes of Coinbase, Marathon Digital, and Bitdeer. This expansion puts Kraken directly in competition with platforms like Robinhood.
A Single Account for All
The new product is offered through Kraken Securities, a FINRA-regulated entity focused on equities. By consolidating crypto and traditional finance tools, Kraken is positioning itself to compete more directly with platforms that already cater to multi-asset investors. This move makes Kraken one of the few crypto-native companies to offer traditional asset trading alongside digital assets under a single account.
International Expansion Plans
The rollout marks the beginning of Kraken’s expansion plans across the U.S. and into international markets such as the U.K., Europe, and Australia. As the company continues to grow, it is clear that Kraken is committed to providing seamless access to traditional financial markets for its clients.
