Meet Tom Lymer, the 82-year-old butcher with a passion that spans over 70 years. In celebration of Lymers butchers’ 50th anniversary, we delve into the enduring story of quality and customer service that has captivated Droitwich High Street.
Tom Lymer, 82, has been the proud owner of Lymers butchers in Droitwich High Street for nearly 50 years. With a career spanning over 70 years, he still finds joy in being behind the counter, chatting with his loyal customers.
Lymer’s passion for butchery began at 13 when his school teacher, ‘Mr Hale’ , asked him to visit another butcher’s shop to learn the trade. He started learning seriously at 15 and became a manager by the age of 19. When he heard about an available unit in Droitwich High Street in the mid-1970s, he seized the opportunity.

Lymer’s approach to butchery is distinct from that of supermarkets. He insists on sourcing his products locally and refuses to follow the mass-produced methods of bigger retailers. Instead, he prioritizes quality and customer service, which has earned him a loyal following among locals and visitors alike.
Tom Lymer’s wife, Sandy, joined him in the business five years ago after her retirement from banking. She credits his dedication to the job with keeping their family affair thriving. Their customers appreciate not only the high-quality products but also the personal touch that comes with dealing with a family-run business.
Lymers butchers has just celebrated its 50th anniversary, a testament to Lymer’s hard work and commitment to his craft. As he reflects on five decades of service, he remains dedicated to providing exceptional customer experiences and continues to inspire a new generation of butchers with his passion for the trade.
