A young man’s life ended at a music festival in Tenerife, and his family is desperate for answers. As the investigation continues, they plead with witnesses to come forward.
The Mysterious Disappearance of Jay Slater
A Night at the Music Festival
Jay Slater, a 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, went missing on June 17, 2024, while attending the NRG music festival in Playa de las Americas, Tenerife. His disappearance sparked an intense investigation and a month-long period of media scrutiny.
The Investigation Continues
The inquest into Jay’s death has been adjourned several times as investigators continue to search for key witnesses who were with him on the night of his disappearance. Despite months-long efforts, some of his friends and acquaintances remain uncooperative or unreachable.
Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, pleaded with Coroner Dr James Adeley to bring forward these individuals, saying ‘How can we ever get any understanding? There’s things we want to question. We want these people to be sat in front of us, because our son went on holiday and didn’t come back, so there’s questions we need to ask.’

The Last Hours Before Jay’s Disappearance
According to evidence presented at the inquest, Jay was last seen by one of his friends, Joshua Forshaw, at the Papayago nightclub around 1am on June 17. Forshaw described Jay as being ‘happy’ and ‘joyful’ but noted that he seemed to be under the influence of alcohol.
Toxicology Reports
Toxicology reports revealed that Jay had taken several substances before his death, including MDMA, cocaine, and ketamine. It is unclear how long he had taken these substances before his death.
The Search for Answers
The inquest has heard from several witnesses who claim to have seen or spoken with Jay on the night of his disappearance. However, despite numerous attempts, some of these individuals remain uncooperative or unreachable.
As the investigation continues, the family and friends of Jay Slater await answers about what happened to him during those final hours.
